About me

Before working as a literacy specialist in New Jersey school districts, Meredith Alvaro was a tenured public school teacher in NYC at PS 116 in Manhattan's high-performing former District 2. Meredith Alvaro’s work there, teaching students on a wide range of academic levels, including combined inclusive classes with both general and special education students together, helped to expand her knowledge of building better teaching practices and curriculum for all learners. With a Masters Degree from Columbia University Teachers College, and as a Doctoral candidate, Meredith Alvaro was recruited for a new position as the Director of Student Teaching in the Elementary Inclusive Preservice Program at Teachers College Columbia University. Meredith Alvaro also became well known as a literacy specialist, moving between different schools and teaching both students and teachers how to love and improve literacy.
